2 suspects on the run after chase in Westmoreland Co.

SMITHTON, Pa. — Police are searching for two people who got away from them behind a Westmoreland County truck stop.

Investigators are still looking for those people who took off running after a pursuit near Interstate 70.

Pennsylvania State Police and other police agencies are working together, searching the area off of the Smithton Exit near Smithton Pike.

That’s where the short chase came to an end when the suspect crashed a blue car in the woods.

Sources told Channel 11 they are looking for James Hayes and Jillian Richter.

Investigators were processing the car the suspects were in, while other officers searched the woods nearby.

Both are wanted on felony drug warrants, which is why police approached them initially.

Deputies were trying to serve a warrant on Hayes outside of a house on Motordrome Road, the street that runs behind the Flying J's Truck Stop.

Hayes was in a blue Taurus that crashed before he and Richter ran off into the woods.

Pennsylvania State Police out of Belle Vernon are taking over the investigation.
