5 arrested during gun, drug raid at New Castle apartment

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Police arrested five people during a drug and gun raid at a home in New Castle.

According to a release, four men and a woman were taken into custody – and officers found several guns and drugs Friday inside the apartment on Highland Avenue.

Police said one of the men tried to evade arrest by jumping down a fire escape. He was caught after a brief foot chase.

These are the five suspects who are facing several charges, according to police:

  • Jgenus Steele, 20 – Charged with Persons (Felons) not to possess firearms, Possession of firearms with altered serial number, three counts of Possession with the Intent to Deliver, one count of Receiving Stolen Property (Firearm)
  • Maliek McDaniel, 21 – Charged with Persons (Felons) not to possess firearms, Possession of firearms with altered serial number, three counts of Possession with the Intent to Deliver, one count of Receiving Stolen Property (Firearm)
  • Scier Jackson, 24 – Charged with Possession of firearms with altered serial number, three counts of Possession with the Intent to Deliver, one count of Receiving Stolen Property (Firearm)
  • Israel Cruz, 18 – Charged with Persons (Felons) not to possess firearms, Possession of firearms with altered serial number, three counts of Possession with the Intent to Deliver, one count of Receiving Stolen Property (Firearm)
  • Jadeya Brothers, 20 – Charged with Possession of firearms with altered serial number, three counts of Possession with the Intent to Deliver, one count of Receiving Stolen Property (Firearm).

Inside the apartment, police said they found five loaded handguns, ammunition, over 40 grams of suspected heroin, 30 grams of marijuana and $1,718 in cash.

All five suspects will have preliminary hearings on March 3.
