8 arrested after scuffle marks end of peaceful Butler protest

BUTLER, Pa. — About 300-400 demonstrators showed up Sunday afternoon to Diamond Park in Butler, and near the end of the event, eight people were arrested after a fight broke out, police said.

“There were a number of business owners who were keeping a watch so there was no looting,” Butler Police Chief Bob O’Neill said.

Near the end of the protest, one man punched another in the face, and several other people in the crowd started fighting with police officers.

It was unclear if other events were planned in Butler in response to the death of George Floyd in the coming days.
