Amazon truck hits gas meter before crashing into Pittsburgh home

PITTSBURGH — An Amazon truck crashed into a home Thursday evening in Pittsburgh’s Mt. Washington neighborhood.

Officials said the driver parked the truck on Cuthbert Street when the emergency brake apparently failed while he was outside of the vehicle delivering packages.

The truck then drifted down the street and struck a gas meter and a house on Virginia Avenue around 5 p.m. Officials said the truck also clipped a car before hitting the house.

A wall of the home was pushed in two feet.

“Could’ve been bad, man. Once that would’ve blew up … that gas line, you know, sparked. It’s all it would’ve took,” John Wallace, whose girlfriend’s mom lives on the first floor, said.

No one was hurt, and officials said no charges are being filed.

Amazon issued the following statement regarding the crash: “We are working quickly to resolve this matter and are in direct communication with the customer and law enforcement.”

Amazon officials told Channel 11 they are assessing the property damage and want to make the situation right.
