Ambridge district bans unsupervised young children from football games

When football fans enter the Ambridge Stadium on Friday night for the big homecoming game, things are going to be a little different.

Any student coming to the game that is 12 or younger must be accompanied by an adult. School district officials sent a letter home to all parents last week telling them the new rules begin immediately.

The district says the past three home games, there's been a noticeably larger number of unsupervised students that has led to safety issues. Officials say they roughhouse, horseplay, don't watch the game and basically get in the way of the real fans.

“One of the games, the kids were moving around and hit into an elderly lady and she had to go to the hospital,” said police Chief Jim Mann. “She's fine.”

Police believe the district is taking a proactive approach, bringing families together and stopping the unsupervised chaos. One father agrees.

“I think it's great,” said Arthur Jones. “I don't think you should you drop your kids off. I think we should all go together.”

He says it's all about football, fun and family, and new rules should only make it more enjoyable.

Ambridge says its first priority is the safety and security of its students and community members. Kids 12 and under are welcome, they just have to come with an adult.
