American Legion, friends, family help Korean War Army vet who lost everything in home fire

WESTMORELAND COUNTY, Pa. — 86-year-old Frank Loughner, a Korean War Army veteran, has been a lifelong American Legion member. He was also a lifelong Slickville resident until he lost everything he owned in a fire.

“His house burned and he was in it at the time it caught fire and he was able to get out with the clothes he had on and his wallet and that was it,” Mark Palmer said.

Palmer said the American Legion, friends and family are helping to clean up what’s left of Loughner’s home.

“Getting it prepped because he definitely wants to reestablish his roots back up at that site again,” Palmer said.

There have been enough donations for Loughner to secure a deposit on a used mobile home that will fit his needs. The Legion is still maintaining a GoFundMe page for Loughner and a spaghetti dinner to help get him back on his feet.

“This is one of our members here and he is a seasoned veteran and so we went all out on this one, but it’s the same thing we’d do for anybody else that needed help,” Palmer said.
