Arrest made in homicide of 3-year-old

PITTSBURGH — A man was arrested Monday in the death of a Carrick toddler.

Major Troutman, 3, died from a head injury in February after spending more than a week at Children's Hospital.

Jamal Williams, 21, of the North Side, is accused of hurting the child in an apartment on the North Side.

In Feburary, Troutman's mother called 911 after hearing a loud thump from her son's bedroom. She rushed in to see Williams holding her son, claiming he fell off the bed.

But police said what happened was not an accident. Witnesses told police Williams left before police arrived.

Police said Williams had assaulted the toddler in the past.

A Facebook video shows Williams holding the boy inside a stairwell dangling him by the ankles, according to police.

Williams was already in the Allegheny County Jail on previous firearm violations when police arrested him Monday, officials said.
