Beaver Falls wants to shrink driving lanes

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. — If you've ever been to Beaver Falls you know about some of the hot spots that have been around, but you might not know about over the past five years, 30 new business have come in.

Beaver Falls city officials say they are doing really well and looking for new spaces to expand.

The push to get more pedestrians to downtown Beaver Falls is one of the reasons Seventh Avenue will be reconfigured in the next year or so.

The city has already condensed it to a core business district of five or six blocks because the downtown was too long. They want to fill vacant spots.

“So we want to concentrate our efforts in that area. Not saying we don't want to add business in other areas, but we just want to concentrate our focus on those specific areas,” City Manager Charles Jones said.  “We're super encouraged by the revitalization and great work being done here in Beaver Falls.”

Businesses really want to attract millennials and the younger crowd.

The city is working with nearby Geneva College to figure out ways to get more students downtown.

The biggest challenge is the geography and the big hill between the two.
