Bethel Park middle school closing for a week after second COVID-19 case reported

BETHEL PARK, Pa. — After a second case of COVID-19 was reported by a staff member at Neil Armstrong Middle School in Bethel Park, officials announced the school will be closed for a week.

The acting superintendent of the school district, Dr. Joseph Dimperio, said in a letter to the community that Neil Armstrong is closing through Sept. 29 out of caution and to comply with the Pa. Department of Education’s health and safety protocols.

Students will continue to have remote learning in the meantime, and no one will be allowed in the building except for custodians and administrative stafff.

Anyone who was in close contact with the person who tested positive has been notified and instructed to self-isolate for the next two weeks.

Neil Armstrong Middle School is expected to open back up next Wednesday.
