Bishop Zubik agrees Wuerl's resignation was right move for church

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh's bishop is speaking about the resignation of his predecessor, Cardinal Donald Wuerl.

Channel 11's Courtney Brennan spoke with Bishop David Zubik just a few hours after Pope Francis announced he had accepted Wuerl's resignation.

Zubik said that Wuerl wanted the pope to accept his resignation to help the church heal. Zubik said he agreed that it was the right move, although he thought Zubik's actions were appropriate at the time.

"I need to be able to say that, from what I observed, the parameters that were in place in the 1980s 1990s and then the turn of the century, that he really worked in those parameters," Zubiks said.

Zubik also said that he has heard from a lot of people in the church and has thought a lot about his future, and that he will continue serving in his current role to help in the healing process.

"I have really prayed about my future and I have to say I really want to continue as bishop of Pitsburgh," he said. "I don't think it was accidental that I was made bishop at this particular time and I can't walk away from the people that I've poured my heart and soul out for the last 11 years."
