Blast from explosive device under car causes damage to nearby homes in New Castle, police say

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — New Castle police are investigating after what appeared to be an explosive device under the front end of a car blew up and caused damage to nearby homes early Friday.

According to a release from police, officers were called to Wallace Avenue around 1 a.m. Friday for a call about an explosion.

“I was watching TV. My girlfriend was sleeping. You just hear this explosion,” Josh Albright, a neighbor, said.

Police said officers found a car on that road with “severe front-end damage” from an apparent explosive device underneath it.

After an initial investigation, police learned the blast caused damage to four different homes in the area, including 20 windows of nearby residences.

ATF and Pennsylvania State Police are assisting the investigation, and police said several leads have been developed in the case.

Officials did not specify if there were any injuries as a result of the blast.
