Buffalo Township loses police coverage from neighboring community

BUFFALO TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A Washington County community that was getting policing help from its neighbor isn’t getting it anymore.

Buffalo Township is approximately 20 square miles, with about 2,500 residents and a large amount of farmland.,

Neighboring Donegal Township has been providing police protection for Buffalo Township the last few years, not knowing the contract expired. And last week, that all came to an abrupt end.

Township solicitor Lane Turturice had to contact the district attorney, the president judge, to let the public know and lastly tell state police. Without a contract, Donegal officers cannot enforce laws there.

Troopers will now be responding to all calls around the clock for Buffalo Township.

Channel 11′s Cara Sapida reached out to state police. They said they’ve been providing part-time services to this area already and Buffalo Township will fall into an established patrol zone. They don’t release any details on how many troopers cover a patrol zone, though.
