California University of Pennsylvania students will head back to class this fall

California University of Pennsylvania classrooms and dormitories are being prepared to reopen for the fall semester and welcome back approximately 6500 students, many who had been doing remote learning through the spring.

“We are going to be asking them to wear masks, and abide by social distancing, and it's critically important to keep our campus safe and healthy,” said Cal U spokesperson Christine Kindl.

One of the neat changes the school is making is giving students the choice as often as possible to go to class or continue remote learning, but in real time where they can participate, ask and answer questions from a distance.

“We may also set up situations where students can choose either to be in class or follow along in real time remotely,” Kindl said.

The school year is also starting a week early on Aug. 17 and ending the semester early as well, sending students home for Thanksgiving with their fall semester completed.

“This gets them home for what will be the traditional flu seasons, and we are hoping it also keeps students from going home and coming back, because that travel is not the best when dealing with a pandemic,” Kindl said.

The school is offering deferments for incoming freshmen who aren’t comfortable starting in the fall. They will hold their scholarships and financial aid for freshman who prefer to wait and start school in the spring.
