Car ends up on roof of Greenfield Giant Eagle

PITTSBURGH — A car ended up on the roof of the Greenfield Giant Eagle early Saturday morning.

Police said they responded to the call around 4 a.m. at the intersection of Murray Avenue and Loretta Street.

When they arrived, they found a car on the roof with the driver standing next to it.

"The problem is a lot people speed around that bend and recently we had some of that street re-paved so now they think it's a highway," City Councilman Corey O'Conner said.

Giant Eagle employees were evacuated.

Police said the driver was traveling on Greenfield Avenue at a high rate of speed and could not negotiate a bend in the road. The driver then struck a curb, went airborne and landed on the roof, police said.

The driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

A similar incident happened in March of 2016 when a car landed on top of the same grocery store.
