ALLEGHENY CO., Pa. — A plant on Neville Island was built in just 10 days to make hand sanitizer for local hospitals in need.

"This project came about from a challenge from our owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who saw the need for hand sanitizer as a global issue. And he challenges business leaders to come up with a process where we can be producing hand sanitizer for the medical industry within 10 days,” Duke Lippincott, plant manager at INEOS’ Neville Island location, said.

Staff scientist Dr. Rachel Stryffeler told Channel 11 they have the raw materials needed to produce mass quantities of hand sanitizer available at their facility.

Production on the sanitizer started earlier this month. INEOS plans to distribute the bottles to hospitals in need across Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York and New Jersey each month for free.

In addition to the sanitizer, INEOS is also helping to fight COVID-19 by producing more than 300 different products essential to making medications, test kits and ventilators.
