City employees told to stay away on Inauguration Day over protest, violence concerns

PITTSBURGH — Mayor Bill Peduto told Channel 11 he is not expecting any protests, but as a precaution, he ordered city employees to not come to the City County Building next Wednesday.

“We have precautions in place. We will be monitoring closely and having our officers on detail and we pray for a peaceful transition of power,” Peduto said.

The mayor said police and public safety have been in daily contact with the FBI and he said they’re also working with the New York City Counterterrorism Unit. Despite no credible evidence of any events or violence, Peduto said he’s not taking any chances after what happened in Washington, D.C.

“There’s nothing at this point that would validate any legitimate concern for any type of activity to happen next week. Still, we are being practical and we are being cautious,” he said.
