Coronavirus outbreak causing major impact on volunteer fire companies

Volunteer firefighters are hitting hard times because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Many have had to cancel major fundraisers, which is a main way many of those units get by. Canceling things like fish fries and bingo games will have a large impact on day-to-day operations.

“We cannot give back the fish we already ordered or anything like that, so we have to take the order that’s coming in. What do we do after that? We really don’t know,” said Mark Blaszkowski, president of Wilpen Fire Company.
