County reports more than 500 new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours

The Allegheny County Health Department released that in the last 24 hours, 526 new COVID-19 cases were reported.

Of these, 402 are confirmed cases from 1,655 new PCR tests. There are 124 probable cases. New cases range in age from 5 months to 100 years with a median age of 43 years. The dates of positive tests ranged from July 8 to Jan. 15. Six positive tests are more than a week old.

There was one positive test from July. The Health Department is investigating this and refers any laboratories with routine delays in reporting to the state for follow up, the release states.

There were 38 new deaths reported, ranging from Nov. 28 to Jan. 14. One death was from November; 27 were from December.

Of the newly reported deaths one person was in their 50s, three people were in their 60s, 10 were in their 70s, 10 were in their 80s and 14 were in their 90s. Twenty deaths were associated with long-term care facilities.

Since March 14, there have been 63,884 cases of COVID-19 in Allegheny County residents, 3,785 hospitalizations and 1,221 deaths.
