New COVID-19 cases in Allegheny County continue to decline

PITTSBURGH — The Allegheny County Health Department released that in the last 48-hours, 796 new COVID-19 cases were reported.

The latest numbers are a 10-percent drop from a week ago and a 44-percent drop from this time in December.

Of the new positive cases, 621 are confirmed cases from 3,105 new PCR tests. There are 175 probable cases. New cases range in age from 4 months to 98 years with a median age of 41 years. The dates of positive tests ranged from Dec. 28 to Jan. 17. One positive test is more than a week old.

Four new deaths, between Dec. 22 and Jan. 15, were also reported. One death was from December. Of the newly reported deaths: two people were in their 70s, one person was in their 80s and one person was in their 90s. Three deaths were associated with long-term care facilities.

Since March 14, there have been 64,680 cases of COVID-19 in Allegheny County residents, 3,803 hospitalizations and 1,225 deaths.
