Allegheny County says appointments needed for COVID-19 vaccines

MONROEVILLE — Several people say they have been turned away from their COVID-19 vaccination site at the Doubletree Hotel in Monroeville, but county officials say this is because they are not eligible for vaccinations at this time.

Officials say vaccinations are still in the Phase 1A category-- healthcare workers and residents of long-term care facilities, as well as employees that provide care directly or indirectly for ill patients.

An appointment is also needed, as well as a unique appointment link, which officials say are also being forwarded and shared between residents. But the general public will not be vaccinated until Phase 3, which has not yet begun. So those showing up at the location looking for a vaccine will have to wait.

Organizations which have employees that fall into the Phase 1A category can complete the Covid-19 vaccination form through the county’s online support center.

Once Phase 1A is finished, Phase 1B will start. That phase includes first responders, workers in positions considered essential or critical, people with high-risk conditions and anyone over the age of 65.

Once more vaccines become available, Phase 2 will start, and that will cover anyone from Phase 1 who was not yet vaccinated, and other high-risk populations.

The general population will not be vaccinated until Phase 3.
