COVID-19: Plan for vaccinating older Pennsylvanians expected next week

HARRISBURG, Pa. — More older Pennsylvanians could soon be eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

Gov. Tom Wolf announced Thursday that the state is formulating a plan on how to vaccinate residents older than 65.

Earlier this week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urged states to allow this age group to have access to the vaccine, considering them high risk.

Wolf said he should have specifics on the plan next week.

However, some counties might not be able to move forward with the plans.

Allegheny County officials said Wednesday that people 75 and older might have to wait longer to get their shots because of the state’s emphasis on vaccinating health care workers first, Channel 11′s news exchange partners at TribLIVE reported.

Pennsylvania is still in Phase 1A of the vaccine rollout.

Wolf acknowledged that he would like to see things move faster, but he said the state is at the mercy of the federal government when it comes to receiving vaccine doses.
