Daughter of local baking video star carrying on her legacy, warns of coronavirus dangers

LATROBE, Pa. — Lucy Pollock was a seemingly healthy 98-year-old woman whose Facebook videos went viral during the pandemic.

Pollock had nearly 30,000 followers and even appeared on the “Today” show for her baking videos, as she was a warm light during a dark period.

However, the star of “Baking With Lucy” died from COVID-19 two weeks ago inside Latrobe Hospital. And her daughter is sharing a very important message with the hope of saving someone else’s life.

“Even when I called her at the hospital on Saturday morning, she said, ‘I feel good,’” said Mary Ellen Raneri. “She really was overcome by this and that’s my point. I want people to understand that it was not something that was a lingering thing.”

Raneri helped pioneer the Facebook fanfare that Pollock adored, but she wants everyone to know the coronavirus is still very serious.

“We cannot go into groups, small or large. If a mask catches one drop of spit, if it’s one fleeting piece, if we can just do our part,” Raneri said. “It has to do with being a decent human being and trying to help somebody else.”

Raneri is continuing her late mother’s cooking shows online and even started shipping out Pollock’s cookbook. You can find more info here.
