Doggone it: Perplexing animal that escaped local wildlife rescue identified as a coyote

WESTMORELAND COUNTY, Pa. — It’s the question that’s been on the minds of Channel 11 viewers and staff members alike: was that animal a dog or coyote?

The 2022 Question of the Year finally has its results.

The mystery animal has officially been identified as a coyote.

It makes sense, considering it escaped captivity last month and ran back into the wild.

Wildlife workers also said his behavior made them believe he was born wild, even saying back in January they thought he was a coyote.

There have been no sightings of the coyote since his escape and wildlife rescuers encouraged the public to leave him be if they do see him.
