First round of payments to help small businesses in Pa. going out Monday

HARRISBURG, Pa. — The first round of payments to small businesses to help with COVID-19 recovery in Pennsylvania was announced Monday.

The grants from the $225 million program range from $5,000 to $50,000.

Gov. Tom Wolf announced $96 million was awarded to 4,933 small businesses impacted by the health crisis and following a business closure order. More than half the grants were awarded to historically disadvantaged businesses.

In addition to the payments going out Monday, state leaders announced a second round of payments will be opening up for businesses.

People can apply through Friday, Aug. 28.

Eligible applicants from the first round of grants do not need to reapply and will be rolled into the next round for consideration.
