Florida kidnapping suspect arrested in Monroeville marijuana grow house

MONROEVILLE, Pa. — Drug and gun charges were filed against a Monroeville man after being arrested at his home in connection with a kidnapping out of Florida.

Daray Luqwan Washington, 27, was initially arrested Monday at his home on Bittersweet Drive in Monroeville by the U.S. Marshals fugitive task force. He was wanted on a felony warrant connected to a kidnapping incident in Florida.

Monroeville police said while taking him in to custody, several marijuana plants, scales and plastic bags consistent with narcotics packages, as well as other assorted narcotics including heroin, ecstasy and crack cocaine, were found.

In the basement, police said more than a dozen growing marijuana plants were found.

Inside the home were also several firearms, magazines and ammunition, including a 9mm AK-47 style rifle with a 100-round drum magazine hidden in the drop ceiling outside the room where the marijuana plants were located.

According to the criminal complaint, Washington said to a detective, “Everything in that house is mine.”

He is currently being held in the Allegheny County Jail and bail was denied. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 26.
