Free COVID-19 testing site set to open in Allegheny County community

McKEESPORT, Pa. — A free COVID-19 testing site opens Tuesday in McKeesport, but people can begin scheduling appointments Monday.

The testing site will open 10 a.m. Tuesday at 455 Industry Road. It will operate as a drive-up, self-administered testing site.

County officials decided to open the testing site after public outcry from people in the community who felt they were being left out and didn’t have access to testing.

In order to get a test, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Have symptoms of COVID-19 or been in contact with someone who has it.
  • Work in a nursing home or care facility.
  • Are a healthcare worker or first responder.
  • Are high risk and have been around 10 or more people.

Tests are free for all ages, made possible because of the CARES Act. Appointments can be scheduled online (CLICK HERE) or by calling 412-209-2262 starting at 8:30 a.m. Monday.

There will be 250 appointments available each day. The site will be open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“This is a great site because it is wide open. It’s accessible to people by car, public transit, there’s a major public transit line right there so people know where this site is,” said Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald.

The location was picked for a reason.

“Minority communities and lower income communities have been hit the hardest during this pandemic,” said Rep. Austin Davis.
