Grants available for schools to buy COVID-19 cleaning products, modify areas for social distancing

HARRISBURG, Pa. — More than $150 million is now available in the form of grants for schools to be able to buy cleaning and sanitizing products, provide additional staff training on the spread of infectious diseases, buy equipment for distance learning, modify areas to allow social distancing by students and staff, and other items that might be needed in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Gov. Tom Wolf’s office, the School Safety and Security Committee approved the funding for the 2020-2021 school year. Under the federal CARES Act, the money was transferred to the state to be distributed to school districts, career and technical centers, intermediate units, charter schools, regional charter schools and cyber charter schools.

Over 770 eligible school entities will be awarded funding, Wolf’s office said.
