CLAIRTON, Pa. — The Allegheny County Health Department fined United States Steel Corp. (NYSE: X) $337,670 for continued dangerous emissions at its Clairton Coke Works facility for the first quarter of 2019 and another $5,750 for a failed stack test in 2017, according to a news release.
These fines are not related to other fines and lawsuits regarding issues that stemmed from a December 2018 fire at the Clairton Coke Works, according to the release.
Last month, environmental groups PennEnvironment and the Clean Air Council officially announced a lawsuit against U.S. Steel for violations of the Clean Air Act and residents of Clairton filed their own class-action suit against the company, citing unsafe emissions from the Clairton facility.
