Wind chills approached 10 degrees below zero in much of the area Monday morning and into the afternoon, with temperatures in the single digits.

The Brentwood Borough School District's superintendent tweeted Sunday night, saying “The Brentwood Borough School District will be closed tomorrow January 21, 2019 due to extremely cold temperatures. … The make-up day will be Monday, April 22, 2019. #staysafe.”

Students at Bethel Park School District were previously scheduled to go in today.

Although it is a national holiday, the district had to make up classes from a threat that caused a closing in October.

A district spokesperson told Channel 11 that any time there's a wind chill advisory listing temperatures below zero degrees, they will close school, and they're not alone.

Other districts made similar decisions while some, such as McGuffey School District, are using a flexible instruction day, which allows students to choose between coming in for face-to-face instruction or completing their work via online learning resources.
