Improvements coming to Port Authority’s Station Square station

PITTSBURGH — The Port Authority of Allegheny County has rolled out a station improvement plan, and one of the big focuses is Station Square.

The station includes four busy stops, and riders said the upgrades are essential considering how busy the stop can be.

The Port Authority’s goal is to boost all riders’ experience by investing in the lines.

They want to welcome future development at the site, increase ridership, improve station access and create a welcoming design around the lower level and the Mon Incline.

Safety is also a top priority here.

“They need a safer way for people to cross the roads because you have a lot of elderly people. People who have disabilities, like myself, who can’t get across the road real quick,” said rider Zachary Glenn.

Plans include new lighting, canopies and accessible ramps.

Port Authority officials said they are still in the early phases of planning.

Riders hope their ideas are taken seriously and play an integral part in future plans.
