IRS says Social Security recipients to get stimulus checks next week

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tens of millions of Americans who are still waiting for the latest round of stimulus checks could receive that money in just a few days.

Many American households have already received a third round of stimulus payments, which Congress approved in the latest COVID-19 relief bill.

Around 127 million payments have been sent out so far.

Low-income Social Security recipients should be receiving theirs soon.

That includes an estimated 30 million Americans who don’t normally file taxes and currently receive Social Security benefits.

The Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service said those payments will arrive as early as this weekend, and no later than April 7.

Recipients could get up to $1,400 as part of the almost $2 trillion COVID-19 relief bill signed by President Joe Biden.

Most of the payments will be sent electronically and distributed by direct deposit, or through existing “direct express” cards.

You can check the status of your stimulus payment by using the government’s online Get My Payment tool.
