Lawsuit filed against care home where former Steeler Sam Davis found dead

PITTSBURGH — The family of former Steelers player Sam Davis has filed a lawsuit against the care home where he was found dead.

The family tells Channel 11 they are suing the New Life Personal Care Home in McKeesport. Family members said they also launched their own investigation into the facility and are asking for privacy.

Davis won four Super Bowls with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an offensive lineman in the 1970s. He was reported missing from the facility in September 2019. Fourteen hours later, he was found dead at the bottom of an outside stairwell from an apparent heart attack. He had dementia and was legally blind.

Officials with the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services launched an investigation into the home following the death.
