• Local animal rescue helping out with Florence relief efforts

A local animal rescue group is busy with Tropical Storm Florence relief efforts.

Pittsburgh Aviation Animal Rescue is getting animals from a humane society in Dublin, Virginia, to help clear the shelter to make room for animals coming north from Florence-affected areas.

"We got a call this morning that somebody was in desperate need because evacuees were already showing up at their shelter on the North Carolina boarder," Mary Withrow, executive director of Pittsburgh Aviation Animal Rescue, said.

The dogs are being taken to the Big Easy animal hospital in Lawrenceville.

"We were able to place all these dogs within our area shelters and rescues which is just amazing," she said.
