Local school district will continue online learning for second half of school year

ALIQUIPPA, Pa. — Students in the Aliquippa School District just found out they will keep learning online for the second half of the school year.

There was a range of emotions Wednesday night at the Aliquippa School Board meeting.

For two and a half hours, parents talked about computer problems, students getting zeros on assignments, too much homework, and emotional issues their kids are dealing with. Most wanted their children back in school for hybrid learning, or for the ability to talk to a live teacher virtually.

“So we’re going from a video of instruction to actual live instruction,” said Dr. Pete Carbone, Aliquippa School District superintendent.

He said they were planning for a hybrid option in the summer but changed it to try and keep the students, staff and parents safe from COVID-19.

The superintendent said parents who are having problems with virtual instruction in the Aliquippa School District should contact their child’s teacher first, then the principal of their school and then the superintendent’s office.
