Local woman finds Black Lives Matter sign in her yard vandalized, racial slur written on sidewalk

CANONSBURG, Pa. — A Canonsburg woman, who is Black, said she was angry and scared to find the "n" word written in mud outside of her home.

She didn’t want to talk on camera to protect her identity, but her neighbors did speak out.

“I know the person that had this happen to them and I saw the look on her daughter’s face — the fear that she had,” said neighbor Juan Robinson.

It has since been washed off, but whoever wrote the racist word also defaced a sign in her front yard.

They blocked out the word “Black” in Black Lives Matter.

“We found it to be out of the ordinary. This isn’t what Canonsburg is about,” said Canonsburg Mayor David Rhome. “I’m just upset that something like that is going on here in our town.”

It happened just a few weeks after the mayor and police department formed a diversity task force for the city.

So far, police don’t know who did it, but they are actively investigating.

And as for whoever that person is, neighbors have a message for them.

“I just think they’re cowards. You have to be shallow of a person to write something like that,” Robinson said.

Police say for now they are making sure there are extra patrols in the area.
