Local woman turns 104 after beating COVID-19, living through influenza pandemic

PITTSBURGH — A woman who has survived two pandemics celebrated her 104th birthday at Pittsburgh’s UPMC St. Margaret Hospital.

Legula Estiloz lived through the 1918 influenza pandemic as a baby. Recently, she beat COVID-19.

Despite being in the hospital recovering from a heart attack, Estiloz’s birthday was not overlooked.

Family members and hospital workers sang “Happy Birthday” to Estiloz, who said the key to a long life is: “Trusting God, trusting myself and trusting your neighbor. Keep on keeping on.”
