‘Love Your Heart’ event raises awareness about heart disease in women

WEXFORD, Pa. — Nearly half the women at risk for heart disease could lower the risk by 40 percent, just by managing their blood pressure.

It’s one of the reasons behind a major event happening at local Giant Eagle stores. Allegheny Health Network is teaming up with Giant Eagle, the American Heart Association and Channel 11 for the “Love Your Heart” event.

Heart disease is still the number one killer for women: one woman dies every minute in the United States, but many still don’t realize its impact.

“Only one in five women in the United States thinking that cardiovascular disease is the greatest risk in their health, so that’s why the awareness in women is very, very important. Ninety percent of women, they at least have one risk factor or more,” said Dr. Valentina Ivanova, a cardiologist for Allegheny Health Network.

On Wednesday, you can get your blood pressure checked and talk to experts. You can get your blood pressure checked at other Love Your Heart events as well.

Those are from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Giant Eagle in Monroeville and the Robinson Market District.
