Man accused of trying to lure 10-year-old boy into his apartment

PITCAIRN, Pa. — A Pitcairn man is behind bars after police say he followed a 10-year-old boy and asked him to come inside his apartment.

It was a lesson that 10-year-old Andrew Dick said he learned in school that prompted him to start running when Brad Stanek approached him.

"If you don’t know somebody and if they’re acting a little strange that you should run away," Dick told Channel 11.

Dick said he was riding his scooter to Taza's Market when Stanek began following him then asked him to come into his apartment, saying he had some cool stuff in there.

Instead of going inside, Dick said he hurried to his house and told his mom and stepmother.

"I'm just proud he knew to run from him and he listened in school and learned about strangers being dangerous," said Florence Florchak, Dick's stepmother.

According to the criminal complaint, police said there is surveillance video from the market that shows the suspect following the little boy.

Police said they tracked down Stanek, and when they first saw him, he allegedly told them, "I'm not a pedophile."

Investigators said Stanek then made up a story about how he offered the fourth grader a Band-Aid after he saw him wreck his scooter, even though Dick didn't have any injuries.

Stanek is in the Allegheny County Jail.
