DONEGAL TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A man from Florida is accused of trying to swindle local businesses out of cash by impersonating a state trooper.

Police say he attempted to get money from two neighboring businesses in Donegal Township by trying to trick them into giving him "bail money."

Troopers say Timothy Liptrap called employees at the Donegal Township Dairy Queen over the phone, saying their boss had been arrested and he was on his way to get $250 from the register for bail money.

Right across the street, Subway employees told police Liptrap used the same line on them on Monday, claiming to be their boss' brother-in-law, and tried to get to the cash register before an employee stopped him.

Police say while on scene at the Dairy Queen, they called back the number and Liptrap's phone began to ring.

He's being held in the Westmoreland County Prison.
