Man on trial for shooting police officer in 2015; prosecution calls fellow inmate to stand

BEAVER, Pa. — An alleged jail house confession came out in court Monday at the trial for a man accused of shooting a Beaver County police officer as he sat in his patrol car in 2015.

A key witness took the stand, a state parole violator in custody.

He wrote a letter to the Beaver County District Attorney's Office providing details of what Earl Hollins told him regarding what happened the day of the shooting.

This witness says Hollins admitted to him that he was breaking into cars when a police officer pulled up and caught him. According to this witness, Hollins shot up the officer's car and the officer as he took off running.

A lieutenant with the Pennsylvania State Police also took the stand.

He interviewed Hollins on the day of the shooting.

This lieutenant brought up inconsistencies in the defendant’s story, saying Hollins initially told the lieutenant he was staying at another house the night before the shooting and his hair style was different. According to the lieutenant, Hollins later admitted he lied about both stories.

We're still waiting for the former Harmony Township police officer whose life was spared by a bulletproof vest to take the stand.  That should be happening any day now.
