Man shot by police after running from officers, pulling gun in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH — A man was shot by a Pittsburgh police officer after he pulled out a weapon Sunday evening in the city’s Arlington neighborhood, authorities said.

Officers responded to reports of a man being pistol-whipped around 5:30 p.m. on Charcot Street in Pittsburgh's Arlington neighborhood. The victim told officers Green was armed. The victim said he feared for his life.

When police approached the suspect, Dontay Green, he initially cooperated and said he didn’t have a weapon on him. Then, according to police, he abruptly jumped off of a porch and ran down the street.

An officer spotted a weapon in Green’s back waistband, pulled out his own gun and proceeded to chase Green until Green ran behind a car and then pulled out his gun. The officer fired a single shot, striking Green in the leg once, police said.

Green continued to run, tossing his own gun, until he was apprehended at the intersection of Clover and Charcot streets, according to a criminal complaint.

When police asked Green why he ran, he told officers he had drugs on him, according to the criminal complaint.
