SHAPRSBURG, Pa. — A 1-year-old baby boy was taken to the hospital with broken ribs and a suspicious drug in his system, and police are calling it a crime.
Doctors told police they had no explanations as to why the child would have a drug that's prescribed for opioid addiction in his system and that his broken ribs looked like physical child abuse.

The boy's mother, Angela Thornton, has been arrested, and according to police she said there was no way her child could have gotten to the drugs. She blamed the dog, for possibly pulling empty wrappers out of the garbage.
Channel 11's Renee Wallace dug into the Thornton's past, and learned she has previously been arrested. In 2017, the woman's 6-year-old daughter was found wandering the streets of Sharpsburg while the Thornton and her boyfriend were inside arguing.
Thornton pleaded guilty to two counts of disorderly conduct in relation to that.
