Mom claims 15-year-old daughter was assaulted by police on school bus

WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. — A local mother is furious after seeing video of her 15-year-old daughter being detained by police on a school bus.

Shersse Gaines said West Mifflin police want to charge her daughter with assault, but she claims her daughter is the victim.

Gaines’ other daughter was also on the bus and witnessed the whole thing.

“She’s in pain, so what don’t y’all get? Can y’all let go?" said Brianna Gaines, the girl’s sister. “And they wouldn’t let go.”

Brianna said her sister got into a fight on the bus. When police showed up, a number of cellphone cameras started recording, capturing officers trying to detain her sister.

“She was walking off the bus, and what (the officer) did was he was going like this, and she was like, ‘Don’t touch me. I’m walking, I’m getting off the bus,'” Shersse said.

Gaines said her daughter pushed away from the officer after the officer shoved her while she tried to walk off the bus.

Brianna said the officer banged her head against the bus window and tried to put her in handcuffs.

“I can’t even exaggerate how much blood there was from her face, from her nose just dripping,” said Shersse.

The girl’s mother told Channel 11 when she confronted the officer about the force he used, he didn’t provide a real answer -- eventually saying that she bit him.
