MERCER COUNTY — Strong storms Wednesday spun up a tornado in Mercer County. A damage survey team from the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down near Sandy Lake Township around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening.
The NWS Pittsburgh Storm Survey team confirmed EF-1 (max wind 100mph) damage occurred near Sandy Lake in Mercer County, PA yesterday September 22, 2021. This is the 23rd tornado in Mercer County since 1950 and the first since June 16, 2019. More info to come later.

Strong storms were moving through the area at the time and NWS estimated maximum winds from the tornado at 100 mph.
