New Alexandria Fire Department mourns loss of members

NEW ALEXANDRIA, Pa. — Black drapes hang over the garage bays at the New Alexandria Fire Department where Ron Cramer and Brian Sterret spent decades responding to calls. Their turnout gear sits outside the department now as a tribute to the men who had a combined 77 years of service.

“Both were very involved, both very active. Even with Ron’s (Cramer’s) sickness, he was still active here and would help out with fundraisers and fish fries,” said assistant fire chief Watson Smith Jr.

The pair died within 24 hours of each other over the weekend. There will be services for them later in the week.
