North Huntingdon man back in court in connection with violent crime spree in Westmoreland County

WESTMORELAND COUNTY — Victor Steban, 53, was back in court on Wednesday for another preliminary hearing, this time for charges of attempted homicide filed by Pennsylvania State Police.

He is also facing charges across several other municipalities after shooting up homes and trying to kill the former national head of the Pagans Motorcycle Club. Steban was also considered a person of interest in a car bombing.

The first witness in court got emotional, saying she was home with her 9 month old son and several people when she thought she heard firecrackers. She said she looked outside and saw Steban standing near his truck, firing rounds into a detached garage. The woman said she knew Steban’s truck and had known him for several years, telling the judge, “I never thought we were on bad terms.”

Tensions mounted when the second victim came into the courtroom. He and Steban snickered and stared at each other. The witness testified that he was in a camper next to his house when bullets hit the living room. At one point the victim shouted, “He ruined that woman’s life. She’s afraid to even go outside now. That’s what eats me. He killed innocent people.”

The last witness was the wide of Dennis “Rooster” Katona. She said she wan’t home when her house was shot up. Police said as many as five bullet holes were found in a bedroom of the home where grandchildren were staying.
