Nova Place expansion continues with opening of CoLab18

PITTSBURGH — An expansion at the former Allegheny Center Mall, now Nova Place, is moving forward with the opening of a new programming space.

The ribbon-cutting for CoLab18 was held Wednesday.

CoLab18 is a space North Side residents can reserve and use as a “think tank” for whatever they’d like, whether it be a community meeting or a company looking for a place to host a function. The multipurpose room is divided into smaller rooms where people can take advantage of gigabyte high-speed internet.

The new space is the product of several companies -- the Buhl Foundation, Nova Place, Comcast and Urban Innovation 21 -- which formed a partnership to drive inclusive innovation and support the North Side's key needs and strategies.

“What makes CoLab18 so special is it is facilitating a space that will allow everyone -- regardless of where you’ve grown up, your background or skill -- to get equal access to tools and benefits of a rapidly changing economy,” Diana Bucco, Buhl Foundation president, said.
