Penguin at National Aviary has new 'Pittsburghese' name

PITTSBURGH — One of the National Aviary’s new African Penguins has a new name.

Meet Slippy.

The name was voted on by social media followers of Peoples Natural Gas.

Peoples partnered with the aviary for a celebration of African penguins, helping to bring awareness to conservation efforts.

People on social media got to choose from among four names: Ronney, Fidget, Slippy and Milton.

With 39 percent of the vote, Slippy was the winner!

"Slippy" is a Pittsburghese word that means "slippery." Definitely fitting for a penguin.
