“He called me on the phone and said, ‘There’s an active shooter’,” said Rep. Mike Doyle.

Doyle witnessed the insurrection at the Capitol firsthand in January. He told Channel 11′s Rick Earle a staffer kept him updated on the situation.

“I just think coming so close to January 6, you know some of those visions are still pretty fresh in people’s minds. I mean thinking about those two Capitol Police officers, I hope they are going to be okay. They’ve been through a lot,” Doyle said.

U.S. Senator Pat Toomey released a statement in response to the incident:

“The Capitol Police officers who were ambushed today outside the Russell Senate Office Building are heroes. They put themselves in harm’s way and stopped an individual who was attacking the Capitol. I hope all Pennsylvanians will join me this Easter weekend in praying for the officer who was killed, the officer who was injured, and both of their families and colleagues.”
