People in North Hills still waiting for power to come back on after wild weather

ROSS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — People inside every home on Seville Avenue in Ross Township are still waiting for the power to come back on. It’s been nearly 48 hours that many of them have been in the dark.

“It’s pretty awful. I mean there’s nothing. I have no internet, nothing. It’s bad,” said Janet Raitano.

Raitano said she’s had to work out of her car the last few days after the power was knocked out Sunday night.

“Our food is all done and gone,” she said. “I mean my dogs are hot as heck in the house right now.”

To make things even more frustrating, the promise of when that power might be restored keeps changing.

“Everyone kept saying we were supposed to get power restored at 11 o’clock last night and there’s still nothing,” Raitano said. “I don’t even know what the problem is because it seems like some people have it up here and some people have power down there, but we don’t have nothing here.”

And some homes in the neighborhood like this one are running off generator power. But the man who lives in this home told Channel 11 that while he has some power, it’s still a big inconvenience.

Severe thunderstorms brought torrential downpours, hail, lightning and damaging wind gusts Sunday and Monday. Officials with Duquesne Light Company said that at the height of the storm 22,000 customers lost power and more than 400 power poles needed to be replaced. As for who gets power back first, it all comes down to size, with bigger neighborhoods at the top of the list.

The company said the hope is that by about 9 p.m. Tuesday around 2000 customers without power will no longer be in the dark.
